Apertures Acknowledgements
I dedicate this novel to another (and arguably best) of my creations, my son Gabe, whose imagination always amazes and delights me.
Apertures was written on the traditional lands of the Wabanaki (Dawnland Confederacy), specifically the Abenaki and Pennacook tribes.
The photo I used in creating the cover is by photographer Sam Moghadam Khamseh, downloaded as free-to-use licensed from Unsplash and can be found here: https://unsplash.com/photos/person-playing-white-and-black-electric-guitar-Z1dwD5cFEsc
Apertures would not have achieved its final form without the late Kris Lewis, my best friend and writing partner, and his expertise and fertile imagination. One of my greatest regrets is that I can’t get his feedback anymore (to say nothing of jokes, advice, and heart-to-heart conversation). Rest in peace, my sib-from-another-crib.
I want to thank my family for supporting and encouraging my talent; my husband for supporting me financially and emotionally in my writing; and my fellow writers, professors and teachers for their wisdom and encouragement. A special thanks goes to “Tommy G” and “Mrs Tommy” who are unfailing in their encouragement and enthusiasm. You are really wonderful human beings and I’m glad to know you. 🖤
Thank you to all of you who subscribed to my Substack during Apertures’ run, and those who stayed subscribed since Negatives. Keep spreading the word!
What is next?
The sequel to Apertures. With the help of the Obscura, Jane can control her powers, but is the secret organization just using her? And what use is control if she can’t undo the damage she’s already caused?
Obscura is next, but it’s going to be interesting because, unlike with Negatives and Apertures, I…
Um…
Don’t have a complete final draft of Obscura yet.
I am currently working (or, rather, haven’t been steadily working on for a shamefully long time) on chapter 6. I have an outline, with a lot of content that isn’t in the first draft, that I need to write into the rewrite that will become the final.
Which means I need to get on it and make it a priority. I’m going to take a break from updates for the rest of April, and start putting out what I have in May. Meanwhile I’m going to get at writing and hopefully get enough done that I don’t catch up to myself. Cross your fingers for me. And stick around.
