Sign with the Devil
Going where the eyeballs are
I don’t like Amazon. I don’t like their third-party keyboard-smash sellers selling third-rate drop-ship shit. I don’t like their market flooded with AI-generated slop. I don’t like Jeff Bezos and his unnecessary billions and his kicked-in-the-head billionaire mental state. But I’m a fucking hypocrite because I’ll still buy things on there. I try avoiding it but sometimes that’s the only place to find something. Or it’s just too easy. Or even an independent store uses it as a storefront or fulfillment. And after telling Draft 2 Digital to not put my stuff on there, guess what I did after Draft 2 Digital introduced their fees and I pulled my stuff?
I ran back to KDP.
I tried to resist. B&N’s sign-up process involved way too many forever-loading pages and 404 Not Found error messages for confidence. I considered Kobo. Everywhere I read on the web, the consensus was pretty much the same: they got sales with KDP. They got royalties from pages-read with Kindle Unlimited. KDP setup was the easiest, fastest, the hugest chunk of royalties.
So, like remaining on Substack despite the Nazi infestation, I held my nose and uploaded. I looked at the best selling supernatural romance eBook and jazzed my description up accordingly. I included a descriptive subtitle that I’d never put on the actual cover. I opted in to Kindle Select and Kindle Unlimited. Because that’s where the eyeballs are. And whether or not I’m getting paid fractions of a penny per page, if I might get some thirsty supernatural romance eyeballs on my baby, I’m taking the chance.
So you can find Negatives in eBook and paperback on Amazon now, and if you are subscribed to Kindle Unlimited, it is FREE. I set it to no DRM so you should be able to download an ePub or PDF if you want instead of Amazon’s proprietary Kindle format. And if you still have your ethics and don’t want to buy it through Amazon, contact me and I’m sure we can figure something out. PayPal or Venmo or some such thing. I just want to be read.

Stop it. Now I need to break out Froggie
